SR ENGINEERING MANAGER | Minneapolis, MN

This position will report to the Sr. Director of External Reporting. The primary responsibilities for this position are to support External Reporting initiatives including preparation of SEC filings including the annual 10-K and quarterly 10-Q filings, and annual Irish Statutory Accounts (Directors’ Report, Consolidated Financial Statements, and Entity Financial Statements of TopCo Parent).

The ideal candidate is looking to progressively take-on additional responsibilities and possesses strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. This position will provide a wide array of assignments and experiences and will require the ability to work well and partner with a multitude of organizations and levels (including senior level executives) within Corporate Finance, Investor Relations, Legal, Public Relations, Treasury, Tax, Compensation & Benefits, and Medtronic’s Groups, Business Units, and Regions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual 10-K and quarterly 10-Q filings.

  • Participate in preparation of annual Irish Statutory Accounts reporting requirements.

  • Ensure high quality work is achieved while meeting necessary deadlines.

  • Proactively partner with a variety of business, functional, and regional partners to provide financial support.

  • Actively participate in and lead various Special Projects as assigned by management. Special Projects include a multitude of analysis, benchmarking, and ad hoc requests that require the ability to obtain necessary information from internal and external sources and prepare comprehensive, cohesive, and understandable presentations.

  • Assist in implementation of process improvements, including usage of DMAIC strategy and tools (A3) for improving processes.

  • Assist with preparations for quarterly financial statement review with CFO, CAO, and Corporate Controller.

  • Assist in the quarter end reporting process which may include variance analysis and ad hoc reporting on financial statements, management discussion and analysis, and footnotes. Review analysis and disclosures and provide meaningful feedback.

  • Address routine technical accounting questions and assist with addressing more complex technical accounting questions which may be raised by our global business partners.

  • Assist with the preparation of the financial statements for the benefit and retirement plan audits including annual 11-K filings where applicable.

  • Act as liaison with external auditors (PwC) for quarterly review and annual audit procedures.

  • Assist with the continuous improvement of the global finance policy portal including the creation of new policies as needed.

  • Maintain a high level of understanding of current and proposed/pending accounting and reporting requirements through self-study, outside/web-based seminars, and active participation in professional organizations and personal networks.

  • Assist with the development of training and implementation guidance to business partners on accounting policies and the application of U.S. GAAP.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Accounting or Finance Major

  • 4+ years of accounting or finance experience with a bachelor’s degree; or, 2+ years with an advanced degree

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP), financial controls, and other authoritative accounting and reporting guidance

  • Interest in learning and becoming knowledgeable in preparation of annual Irish Statutory Accounts (Directors’ Report, Consolidated Financial Statements, and Entity Financial Statements of TopCo Parent)

  • Big 4 public accounting experience and/or experience supporting an external reporting team for SEC filer

  • Ability to work effectively with several levels of management, including senior level executives, and partner with a variety of business, functional, and regional partners to provide financial support

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organization and analytical skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities while consistently delivering on time/high quality results, including interest and/or experience with visual management tools and processes

MUST HAVES:

  • Must demonstrate good judgment, tact, discretion, and diplomacy in decision making support

  • A high degree of initiative and self-motivation and desire to learn in a continuous improvement environment

  • Ability to manage and manipulate data to develop financial analysis • Active Certified Public Accountant

  • MBA/potential interest in pursuing MBA or other professional degrees
